Unemployment Claims Dip Below Expectations, US Dollar Remains Steady

The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) reported on Thursday that new applications for unemployment insurance benefits reached 218,000 for the week ending September 21. This figure is lower than the initial consensus estimate of 225,000 and represents a decrease from the previous week’s revised total of 222,000 (originally reported as 219,000).

Additional insights from the report indicated that the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 1.2%. The four-week moving average for initial claims was recorded at 224,750, showing a decline of 3,500 from the previous week’s revised average.

Furthermore, Continuing Claims increased by 13,000, totaling 1.834 million for the week ending September 14.
