The Israeli army has accused Hezbollah of storing hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold in a bunker beneath Al-Sahel Hospital in Beirut. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an Israeli military spokesman, made these claims during a televised briefing on Monday.
Hagari stated that the bunker, associated with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, has not yet been targeted by Israeli forces. “Tonight, I am going to declassify intelligence on a site that we did not strike—where Hezbollah has millions of dollars in gold and cash, directly under Al-Sahel Hospital in the heart of Beirut,” he said.
In response, Fadi Alameh, the head of Al-Sahel Hospital, called the allegations false. He confirmed that the hospital’s emergency department is still operational despite ongoing dangers and expressed willingness for the Lebanese army or other observers to inspect the facility to disprove the claims.
During the same briefing, Hagari stated that Israeli forces were targeting Hezbollah’s financial operations, having struck over two dozen sites, including a bunker reportedly containing tens of millions of dollars in cash and gold. “The Israeli Air Force carried out precise strikes on these Hezbollah financial strongholds,” he noted, highlighting that one of the main targets was an underground vault financing Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel.
However, he did not clarify whether all the money was destroyed in the strikes. These military actions, which began on Sunday night, represent an escalation in Israel’s campaign against the Iran-backed group, following a year of increasing cross-border tensions that culminated in a full-scale war in late September.
