KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — A local woman linked to the gold investment scams known as ‘PA Jewellery’ and ‘Paddy Jewellery’ has been arrested by the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID). The 37-year-old was detained at Penang International Airport upon her return from Dubai.
CCID director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf confirmed that four other suspects—three men and one woman aged between 29 and 38—were also arrested at various locations in Kedah and Kuala Lumpur on October 21 and 22.
Authorities confiscated six mobile phones and one Malaysian passport during the arrests. All individuals taken into custody will be held until October 25 to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Ramli stated that 69 police reports have been filed regarding the scam, with reported losses totaling RM48.5 million. Investigations revealed that the fraudulent investment scheme offered five packages with returns based on current gold prices.
Potential investors were instructed to make payments to business accounts associated with Paddy Jewellery and Paddy Legacy. However, many did not receive the promised returns.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Ramli urged anyone who participated in the scheme to come forward and report to the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
