The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has appointed Joerg Eberhart and Lorenza Maggio to the five-member Board of Directors of ITA Airways, effective immediately.
Joerg Eberhart, 54, brings a wealth of experience in the aviation industry. Since 2021, he has served as the Head of Strategy & Organizational Development for the Lufthansa Group, a role in which he played a key part in the group’s involvement with ITA Airways. Eberhart’s career includes serving as President and CEO of Air Dolomiti from 2014 to 2021, a Lufthansa Group subsidiary, where he oversaw significant strategic initiatives. In addition to his leadership at Air Dolomiti, he also served as Managing Director of Lufthansa CityLine GmbH in Munich from 2015 to 2019. Eberhart has been actively involved in strategic projects in Italy since 2019, and he is also a lecturer in air traffic management at Politecnico di Milano.
Lorenza Maggio, 47, has held the position of Vice President of Sales for the Lufthansa Group’s EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) since January 2024. In this role, she oversees the commercial and sales operations for Lufthansa Group’s passenger airlines outside their home markets. Maggio also manages global sales programs, sustainability initiatives for corporate clients, and the airline group’s global sales communications. Prior to this, she was responsible for brand and customer strategy at Eurowings and served as Managing Director at an LSG Group subsidiary. Maggio, an Italian national, has been with the Lufthansa Group since 2001, working in a variety of international roles across multiple divisions.
The appointments of Eberhart and Maggio are seen as key moves in the continued development and expansion of ITA Airways.
