In a significant crackdown on gold smuggling, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi, seized 10.092 kg of gold coins, valued at approximately Rs 7.8 crore, from two Kashmiri passengers arriving from Milan.
The two male passengers, aged 45 and 43, were intercepted on February 5, 2025, after they arrived on Flight AI-138. Based on specific intelligence, the passengers’ suspicious behavior led to their interception at the Green Channel. While initial baggage scans did not show anything unusual, a personal search triggered by alerts from the Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) revealed the concealed gold.
Confirming the seizure, Delhi Customs posted on X (formerly Twitter), detailing how the operation unfolded: “In a swift operation, the AIU intercepted two male passengers, aged 45 and 43, from Kashmir, arriving from Milan. A personal search following DFMD alerts led to the discovery of 10.092 kg of gold, valued at Rs 7.8 crore.”
The gold was seized, and further investigations are underway.
